Teresa Whitney, M.D.

Meet Dr. Whitney

Dr. Whitney was born in Texas and has lived in the Lone Star State her entire life. She grew up in McAllen, later moving to Houston to attend Rice University for her undergraduate degree in biology, and then Baylor College of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. Dr. Whitney then moved to the great city of San Antonio for a one-year Internal Medicine internship followed by an Ophthalmology residency, both at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. During her residency, she conducted research in diabetic retinopathy and optics, presenting at both the Alamo City Ophthalmology conference and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Skills and Specialties

Dr. Whitney has experience caring for a broad range of eye conditions, including comprehensive eye care, diabetic eye care, dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. She offers small incision cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens technology and laser-assisted cataract surgery, as well as refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK).

Certifications and Memberships

Following residency training, Dr. Whitney completed the ophthalmology board certification process, becoming a full member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She worked several years as a faculty member with the University of Texas Health Science Center, teaching ophthalmology residents and medical students. Dr. Whitney then moved into private practice and continues to provide eye care to the Alamo City.


In addition to her ophthalmology practice, Dr. Whitney is a fluent Spanish speaker and an avid musician and artist. Dr. Whitney is also a devoted Spurs fan. GO SPURS GO!
